Best Fabric Resistance Bands – Buyer’s Guide

How do I choose a resistance band?

With so many fabric resistance bands out there, it can be hard to know which one is the best for you. The first decision to make is between latex and fabric resistance bands.

It’s obvious we prefer fabric resistance brands (as we’re writing this post) and we will get into that later, but the other point you have to consider is the size and strength of the fabric bands.

You can find bundles that come with different resistance levels, or in different sizes, which allows you to experiment and it’s important you consider your current fitness level and you can build up strengths from there.

Although resistance bands are a great addition to any workout, we like to avoid the over salesy claims of ‘amazing booty in 2 weeks’ and similar…

Getting in shape takes time, hard work, persistence, and also a healthy diet. So if you see these claims on products trying to sell you on quick results, it’s best to ignore them.

Latex vs Fabric Resistance Bands

Latex Resistance Bands

  • Diverse and can be used for lower body, upper body, and abs
  • Useful if you need a lighter band for certain exercises
  • Stretch further than fabric resistance bands

  • Can be uncomfortable since latex sticks to the skin (especially leg hair)
  • They tend to roll up and not stay in place
  • They can snap, which not only hurts, but they are expensive to keep replacing
  • They have a shorter lifespan
  • Typically sold separately, with slightly less options of resistance levels

Fabric resistance bands

  • Smoother movements and more comfortable
  • Can be put in the wash for cleaning
  • More eco-friendly option
  • Longer lifespan than latex
  • Less tendency to snap
  • Very strong and durable
  • More resistance which helps build muscle
  • Typically come in packs with varying resistance levels

  • Used solely for lower body workouts
  • More expensive cost upfront

Are fabric resistance bands better?

It’s difficult to compare or say which resistance band type is better, as they have different uses and functions.

Personally, we prefer fabric resistance bands. We like their comfort, durability, the challenge of resistance and that they last longer. If you’re focused on booty-building, deadlifts and squatting they are the bands for you.

If you are looking for a cheaper, more flexible option and focusing on upper body strength latex may be the option for you.

Overall, fabric resistance bands are excellent at the job they do, which is being used for leg work, however they won’t be suitable for other upper body exercises. The latex band is a jack of all trades and is more diverse, however much more uncomfortable for leg exercises as it can pinch the skin.

Are resistance band workouts effective?

The short answer is yes, fabric resistance bands are effective and can provide a very fulfilling workout. Resistance bands mimic the effect of weight-bearing exercises through tension. They are safe to use and are often used in physical therapy. They can provide an effective workout at home, while traveling or for extra support in the gym.

Can resistance bands bulk you up?

Fabric resistance bands can help you bulk up, depending on how you use them. A lighter band used in quick, multiple reps will help you tone and build muscle endurance while a heavier, thicker band especially paired with weights will help you build more muscle. Fabric resistance bands can also help you warm up and activate your muscles before a heavy weight lifting session.

How do you use a fabric resistance band?

Fabric resistance bands are fairly intuitive to use. You can simply put them around your upper thighs when doing exercises like squats, hip bridges and donkey kicks. You can place them lower on your legs for standing glute kickbacks and side-lying leg lifts. Keep experimenting and simply try adding them to your regular workout routine.

Fabric resistance bands can be a great addition to your workouts, especially when focusing on your legs and glutes. Our top mentions are the Arena Strength Fabric Booty Bands and Bubble Bands by GetFitHunny.
